Master the Science of Smashing Competency Based Interviews

How awesome would it be to have a set of answers

which you know will help you smash ANY competency based interview?

Imagine crafting exquisite bullet proof answers for competency questions

.... in less than two hours.

Whether you are preparing for a competency based interview

or need to complete an application form which has competency questions,

I am confident you will love what I have prepared for you.

Over the past 6 years I have successfully passed over 40

competency based interviews or application questions

for firms in different sectors, such as:

My name is Tanim Zaman

and I was at university for 5 years (BSc Economics at LSE) and I have done internships pretty much every single summer. I was DESPERATE to secure an internship each summer because I didn’t take out any loans! So apart from some small bursaries, that was my only way of paying for university.

2009 – Deloitte, Gap year scheme- Tax

2012- Deloitte, International Assignment Services

2013- Bloomberg, Sales & Analytics (+offer from Civil Service Fast Stream)

2014- UBS , Chief Operating Office

2015- Barclays, HR Business Partner

4 Key Steps.

Having done so many interviews helped me refine my answers year on year and I have been able to identify 4 KEY STEPS which ANYONE can use to create bullet proof answers.

What I mean by bulletproof, is answers which you can use in full confidence to smash any of your competency interviews or application questions.

Not as easy as you think.

Are your examples good enough?

What are you supposed do to get a high score?

Do your answers sound too short?

What if you don’t have much work experience?

What if you can’t think any more relevant examples?

What if you’re not sure if your example is suitable?

Time consuming, strenuous and stressful.

Doing job applications is an agonising process.

I totally understand your pain.

I remember being very overwhelmed by trying to keep on top of my applications, psychometric tests, interviews, assessment centres, assignments, problem sets, readings, project deadlines… (massive sigh).

Pressure.

I also know that there is huge pressure associated with securing an offer.

For some it is family pressure, peer pressure or financial pressure… for me it was the only way to pay for my university fees.

So getting an offer is a BIG deal. It is the first step into our dream career. It is why we worked so hard at school!

Securing an offer is a Big deal.

That is exactly why I decided to share this 4-step system with everyone… for free.

Over the past few years I’ve developed a bit of a reputation as the interview guru, so I have been helping lots of friends and socially disadvantaged students with their interviews and assessment centres. To my absolute delight, the results have been amazing. (Testimonials below!)

"Last year I applied for graduate role in Consulting within a Big 4 firm. I had some previous experience of assessment centres and interviews but after not receiving those offers I lacked confidence and could really do with some practice and direction. I spent a couple of sessions with Tanim going over what competencies I will be asked about, how to approach the assessment centre and what to focus on in the final interview. Tanim helped me refine my answers by focusing my attention on what makes a solid answer, what ticks the boxes from the firms point of view and what makes me stand out. His mock interview with me gave me plenty of confidence as I understood what I was doing well and where exactly I needed to improve. After this personal training I embarked upon the assessment centre and passed the exercises as well as the final interview. In conclusion, Tanim’s guidance gave me an effective strategy which I could still apply to future interviews. One year in to my graduate role I am grateful I had the opportunity to practice with him"

-Waqaar Butt, Consultant, PwC (2014)

"I met Tanim at a competency interview skills session at UCL where I learned about his bullet proof technique for the first time. I was really impressed with all the useful tips and tricks he taught us, so I decided to purchase his Amazing Competency Fortress. This book, as well as Tanim’s video tutorials, helped me immensely during my preparation for telephone interviews at UBS and EY – I was suddenly able to give well-structured, confident answers to any competency question. Once I’ve passed my telephone interviews, I got invited to the Assessment Centre, which was a whole new challenge for me as I have never been to one of these before. I decided to contact Tanim, and despite the short notice, he was able to help! During a tailored Skype session, Tanim guided me through the whole AC process, he taught me how to deal with case studies as well as gave me superb advise on how to stand out during the group exercise. He also sent me materials I could use for further preparation. Thanks to this, I had a great advantage over everyone else in the assessment centre, and I ended up landing an offer for the Financial Services Consultancy graduate scheme at EY! Thank you once again, Tanim!"

-Barbora Winczerova, UCL Economics Undergrad (2016)

"Tanim helped me immensely in preparing for my Manager and Partner interview stage for Deloitte back in late 2012. He introduced me to STAR method (which enabled me to prepare my responses in a very structured way), reviewed my draft competency based questions’ responses and gave me guidance on how to approach interviewer’s questions that I might not have prepared for. Despite his other many commitments, he took the time to meet me in person to properly get his message across. The interviews went really well, all thanks to Tanim and now I am already going on my 3rd year as a Deloitte employee!"

-Sarah Wahid, Assistant Manager, Deloitte (2013)

"As part of applying for a AVP Financial Planning position at a Blue Chip Investment Bank, Tanim was helping me to understand the selection process and ensure that my interview techniques (of which I had 4 rounds) were improved significantly. He identified the areas I had to improve on, by taking me through mock interviews, and addressed my weaknesses immediately by providing unique and insightful tips from his experience within HR at a tier1 investment bank. He went through each competency skill thoroughly to ensure I was able to extract examples from my previous experience, and was able to tackle areas of improvement as quick as possible. It was extremely useful and I was offered the role!! I would definitely recommend him and his service to anyone, in order to increased the success rate of interviews, especially experienced hire vacancies. Thank you for all your help Tanim. Much appreciated."

-Riad Zzaman, Treasury Analyst, Bank of New York (2015)

"Just wanted to thank you Tanim for what you have done. 6 months ago I attended an interview for my dream job with a firm that are very strict with their competency based questions, I didn’t get the job and they later told me that I had mainly failed in my competency based questions. 6 months later I re-applied for the same role and a few days later I saw this very page that a friend of mine had shared. This was exactly what I needed for my interview and it showed me where I went wrong and where I needed to improve. I applied everything you mentioned in your videos and today I received the news that I got the job and the interviewer was particularly impressed with how I answered the competency based questions. I can’t thank you enough!!"

-Musa Sunny Kabiri, Associate, Financial Ombudsman (2016)

"Transport for London invited me to an assessment center during my 2nd year exams for a year in industry scheme, I was already immensely stressed out and the timing couldn’t have been worse. However, I watched the AC webinar by Tanim and it was amazing. I went into my first ever assesment centre in full confidence of how I am going to exceute the tips and strategies oultined in the webinar, even though I probably should have been really nervous. During the day I could see that candidates did or said things which Tanim advised against, which basically narrowed the race as the day progressed. By the end of the day I went home happy and received an offer the next morning, the HR team had nothing but praise to say for feedback. I guess Tanim’s one to one services are even better, but the online resources were enough for me"

-Ashraful Syed, Queen Mary, Aerospace Engineering Graduate (2016)

"I approached Tanim when I was given an interview date for an internship at Deloitte. I was extremely nervous as this was my first ever interview, which happened to be one of the big 4 accounting firms. He spent some time talking through the structure of the interview, asking about my motivations and life goals and how they were aligned to the role I was interviewing for at Deloitte, (it helped that he had been in the same position as myself a few years prior). He taught me about the STAR technique to keep my answers controlled and to avoid waffling on. I was successful with the interview as a result and the feedback received said that I gave very structured and concise answers. I then had a final interview for the graduate role after the internship and again I employed the same techniques Tanim had taught me and now have secured a graduate offer from Deloitte."

- Fathia Begum, Incoming Graduate, Deloitte (2016)

"I was applying for a Graduate Consulting Role at Deloitte and to be perfectly honest the confidence I had in myself prior to applying and the interview was fairly low. Tanim was able to assess my strengths early and identify my weaknesses in a positive manner. Never did I feel incapable of improving my weaknesses due to the manner Tanim advised and coached me as everything was always positive and light hearted. He was very patient with me which helped a lot considering interview prep can be quite stressful and he always had a sense of urgency in making sure my whole application was perfect rather then just “good enough” which I really appreciated. I have since recommeded others to prepare their interviews with him and if the question is did I get the Job? I write this having finished the Grad Scheme, become a fully qualified Management Consultant, earned crazy air miles and in deep appreciation of the work Tanim has helped me with!"

-Mobien Miah, Consultant, Deloitte (2015)

"Tanim has helped me immensely to prepare for life in the corporate world. He has helped me with my confidence and my corporate awareness which has enabled me to obtain internships in various areas of finance whilst also preparing me for what to expect in these internships. Beyond guiding me through the maze that is the city, i have found that having the pleasure of being exposed to such a great character has developed my soft skills which has helped me mould into an ideal candidate for finance whilst also helping me understand where i would want to end up working. I have found that this guidance and support has proved invaluable for my growth, the world is now my oyster, make it yours! It is difficult to put in words my grattitude for the help he has provided me.

Tanim has been somewhat of a life coach for me in the last 5 years. His support and advice ha shelped me achieve tremendous things. He introduced me to the world of gap year schemes with firms such as Deloitte, IBM, KPMG etc… Not only that, Tanim then coached me on a monthly basis to achieve the goals he had prepared for me. I had never done any competency based interviews before and so, was at a disadvantage when it came interview with the above firms for a gap year position. Fortunately, Tanim was able to pinpoint my areas of weaknesses and thoroughly prepare me for those interviews. He showed me how to breakdown each competency, what the interviewer was looking for, and how best to present my examples to appeal to the interviewer. Through this fundamental coaching at an early age, I was able to secure a place with IBM on their very competitive gap year scheme. Without Tanim’s coaching, I would’ve been at a huge disadvantage. I have also recently gained an offer for a summer internship by Goldman Sachs and again, I honestly put this success down to the fact that I had secured a competitive gap year experience at a young age and from then, developed my soft skills and interview skills from coaching sessions by Tanim.

-Sifat Ahmed, Incoming Summer Intern, Goldman Sachs (2016)

"I was applying for a job where the odds were massively against me, with 2,000 applicants during first round to be cut to the final 10, I needed all the help I could get! I knew the first person I had to contact was Tanim, one of those LSE graduates who were primed for careers. Even though I’ve been successful in two very competitive graduate programmes (formerly part of the Civil Service Fast Stream) I’ve always sought Tanim’s assistance. For my preparation he facilitated a mock assessment centre practice for me as well as telephone interviews and scripting the all too scary final round interview. Honestly, if I didn’t seek his help I would’t have got the offer. The questions isn’t how much you can do on your own, rather how much you want the job. I wanted it bad enough so I contacted Tanim!"
